Student Road Salt Study Using My World GIS Featured in the Media (March 2007)

On March 25, 2007, Fox Channel 32 evening news presented a feature on a My World project in which students throughout the Chicago area are collecting data on salt levels in the soil. They are sharing this data and analyzing it in My World in order to assess the impact of road salt on roadside habitat.  See the feature...

GEODE Newsletter Published (September 2006)
The premier issue of the GEODE Initiative's newsletter, The GEODE, was sent out in September 2006. This issue focuses on the My World GIS software.

Online My World User Community (April 2006)
My World now has an online community site (Yahoo group) for teachers, students, and other users to ask questions, share ideas, and provide feedback to the My World development team.

My World 4.0 includes many enhancements and new features, including improved support for users, seamless integration with online image servers, multiple windows for comparing maps, "named views" for saving the same map in different states, and much more.

My World Project Issues Report on Designing GIS Software for Education (February 2006)
The My World project has issued a report for the GIS community on the key challenges to designing GIS software that supports students, teachers and classrooms. The report describes the findings of a conference of eminent GIS educators and developers who met at Northwestern University in October 2004. It details the key conceptual, usability, and school infrastructure challenges to using GIS in classrooms and identifies important features to address such challenges.

My World Meets New National Academy Goals for Spatial Thinking (February 2006)
A new report by the National Research Council underscores the goals of SESP’s award-winning My World GIS software. The NRC Committee on Support for Thinking Spatially has called for “a national commitment to the teaching of spatial thinking” in grades K–12, especially through the use of geographic information systems integrated into the school curriculum. My World GIS is designed to serve that purpose.
